Side Effects. Drug information provided by IBM Micromedex Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention. In one study, serum concentrations of chloroquine appeared to decline in a biphasic manner and the serum half-life of the terminal phase increased with higher dosage of the drug. In this study, the terminal half-life of chloroquine was 3.1 hr after a single 250 mg oral dose, 42.9 hr after a single 500 mg oral dose. During the erythrocytic stage in humans, malaria parasites digest haemoglobin of the host cell, and the toxic haem moiety crystallizes into haemozoin. Chloroquine acts by forming toxic complexes with haem molecules and interfering with their crystallization. In chloroquine-resistant strains, the drug is excluded from the site of action, which causes the parasites to accumulate less chloroquine.

Hydroxychloroquine HCQ, sold under the brand name Plaquenil among others, is a medication used for the prevention and treatment of certain types of malaria. Specifically it is used for chloroquine-sensitive malaria. Other uses include treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and porphyria cutanea tarda. It is taken by mouth. It is also being used as an experimental treatment for SARS-CoV-2. Feb 17, 2015 It’s important that you dose accurately using a digital scale. Typically, I do a 100% water change in-between batches of fish and then re-dose. A metabolite of chloroquine – hydroxycloroquine – has a long half-life of 32–56 days, so it's not a good idea to use a single dosage past one month anyway. Open Half-Life Blue Shift 2. Facial numbness - You know that feeling when your hand or foot falls asleep, well I am experiencing that in my face cheeks, mouth, and chin off and on during the day. When this happens I either turn really pale or turn really red. I get it everytime I have a Cytoxan infusion but it will usually go away after a few hours and not come back.
